How Long does it take a child to learn to swim?

Probably one of the most common questions we get, and the most complicated to answer.  Every child learns at their own pace.  There are so many factors that go into how a child learns; temperament, previous experiences, age, confidence, attention, and the teacher.  All of these factors are taken into account when your child joins a Swim Gym class.  Our teachers are able to recognize and adapt to your child's needs.  Progress can be quick and exponential at times, and slow and linear.  This is normal.  Everyone wants to see great leaps in skills, but the slower, plateaus are fundamentally important.  The Swim Gym does not have a "testing day" or put much emphasis on "passing" to the next level.  Our progression is more organic and students flow from one set of skills into the next.

What if my child doesn't like it?

We believe that swimming is a fundamental life skill.  It is normal for children to be apprehensive about swim lessons.  We pride ourselves on being patient and caring.  Our relationships with the students are rooted in trust.  We will not force any child into the pool or make them do anything they are uncomfortable with.  However, what sets us apart, is our ability to get those nervous children into the water and doing things they never thought they could do, all with a smile on their face.  Our goal is not only to teach children to be safer around the water but also develop a positive outlook on challenges they may face.

Because of our small class size and high demand for lessons, The Swim Gym does not currently offer trial classes.  You are welcome to schedule a time to come and observe a lesson and see us in action.

Do you offer Make Ups?

In the event of a holiday or scheduled closing tuition will be prorated for the month. We understand that things come up last minute such as illness and extenuating circumstances. However, please keep in mind that classes are small groups or private where a teacher is scheduled to be there for you. We must still pay the facility, the teacher, and the lifeguard whether or not you are there for your class. Day of cancellations are not eligible for a make up. We do not prorate tuition for missed classes. We cannot guarantee make ups for missed classes. A make up class may not be the same class format as your regularly scheduled class. If you know in advance of an upcoming absence, please email us ASAP and we will help you schedule a make up class based on availability; this will help us utilize that spot for others that may need a make up. We will reach out via email with any available make up times. Make ups are first come first served.

Cancellation Policy: As a benefit of being perpetually enrolled throughout the year, there is no need to re-register. If you wish to discontinue lessons, The Swim Gym, Inc. requires 30 days written notice prior to the effective date of cancellation. Your membership renews each month automatically. You will be charged at the beginning of each month for that month’s classes.
